Thought for the day from Miss Twig

"The first time, it's a mistake. The second time it's jazz!"

Okay,
I've pondered about the '7 1/2' for some days now. As I scrolled through them once more, I decided that I believe the one half is not only the most important to practice, but my blessing and my bane. In a consumer imperialist patriarchial society the ability to play is not held in high regard. But output is.

Play teaches us how to manage and transform our negative emotions and experiences. It supercharges learning, helps us relieve stress, and connects us to others and the world around us. Play fosters creativity, flexibility, and learning.

Play has been described as a flow state. When I flow, I feel confident, clear and motivated.

Espresso Book Machine

I just saw the Espresso Book Machine at the MU Bookstore tonight where Mr. Fred Oerly had his own book of stories published. Mr. Oerly is a folklorist extraordinaire from Howard/Cooper counties. The musical Gumbo Bottoms (of which our own Deb Jewett is a star) is based on some of Fred's stories. Anyway, the machine itself is quite large with glassed-in areas where one may view the book being printed. MU has access to 2 million titles through Google Books or Lightening Source. Anyone may bring in her/his own PDF and print a book for 6 cents a page and the bookstore will sell the book on consignment. It opens up all sorts of possiblities for teaching as folks may add their commentaries, forwards, or notes to the text as well.

If copyright is procured by MU, new books that are back-ordered may be printed as well.
